Scope and Contents
The collection includes a photo of Add Ran College at Thorp Springs, Texas. Of
particular interest is her diary from 1890 as a student and an autograph book from 1885.
There is also a program from Add-Ran College, a receipt for a Cotton Bowl ticket, a Fort
Worth Press news clipping, and a poem, signed by ‘Lela.’

Biographical / Historical
Mattie Cooper attended Add Ran College, circa 1890. She married John Harlin in
Gordon, Texas. Together they ran Harlin’s Store in Gordon from 1922 until the store was
sold in 1973 by son, John Boyd Harlin. He donated Mattie’s keepsakes to TCU in 1985.
