Biographical / Historical

Suzanne Coleman was a notable speech writer for Texas Democratic Governor Ann W. Richards from 1981 to 2006. Coleman graduated from Texas Christian University with a BA in Political Science and History and was an active member in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She also received a Master’s in Political Science from University of Texas at Arlington. Coleman is praised for her down to earth writing that is sentimental, kind, and humorous while still being informative and powerful. Her most popular speeches include her Inaugural Address and Keynote addresses to the nation in 1992. While noted for writing for Ann Richards, Coleman also wrote for two University of Texas Chancellors: Mark G. Yudof and Dr. Kenneth Shine. This collections is a great example of the work between a speech writer and a speaker, showing their joint effort. Coleman passed away in 2017.
