Carter, Amon G., Sr.
Series Scope and Content Summary
The series includes correspondence, invitations, programs, cards, tickets, blueprints, lists, financial information, photos, and news clippings arranged alphabetically by subject. The series documents the variety of people and interests with whom and with which Carter was involved, including political figures, colleagues, family, and friends. The majority of this series is composed of material, much of it correspondence, whose subjects such as American Airlines, Inc., the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and WBAP,document Carter's business career. Sections of the material detail his personal life, especially the papers dealing with various members of Carter's family and those describing his friendship with Will Rogers. The papers documenting his son's imprisonment in a Nazi POW camp are especially poignant. The documents reveal Carter's munificence with family, friends, and coworkers in the multiple acts of generosity that he would do for them. The miscellaneous folders that begin with that particular subject's alphabetical letter (i.e. "A-miscellaneous") contain small collections of documents whose amount of material were not large enough to justify having an entire folder devoted to that particular subject. Most of the photographs from this series were removed to a separate photograph series, and most of those folder titles are strongly similar to the folder titles in this series. Some foreign currency bills have been removed to the memorabilia series.
